His focus in counselling is to develop a collaborative relationship with clients to encourage them to become actively involved in implementing change in their lives, and to assist them to become more emotionally resilient.

Clients have remarked that Clinton brings a unique energy, enthusiasm and humour into each session. This, together with his ability to establish rapport, provides clients with a supported, safe and nurturing counselling environment.

Our Philosophy

The philosophy of Centre Peace Psychology is based on the following core ideas:

Establishing a supportive therapeutic alliance is crucial to facilitate change
This means that counselling is conducted in a non-judgemental and supportive environment
Just as one does not need to be seriously unfit to see a personal trainer, so one doesn’t need to have extreme mental health problems to see a psychologist
This means that the psychologist can often take on the role of a life coach to assist clients to address and manage their current problems
Clients are encouraged to actively participate in this change process, rather than remaining passive and waiting to be “fixed”
Counselling isn’t simply a talk fest. The focus is on providing targeted intervention to help the client achieve their predetermined goals.
Whatever the presenting issue, a significant part of the counselling process is to increase the client’s resilience so that they are better equipped to manage similar situations in future
Rather than reinforce maladaptive patterns of behaviour, clients are encouraged to implement and become proficient in more appropriate coping strategies
Client and psychologist need to work together as a team to achieve the identified goals

Modalities

The modality that is used is usually determined by the goal being focused on, and the psychologist’s assessment of what would work best for this client. The modalities that are frequently used include:

  • Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)
  • Mindfulness
  • Hypnosis
  • Brain Working Recursive Therapy (BWRT)
  • Solution Focused Therapy
  • Transactional Analysis
  • Behavioural Activation
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy

How Hypnosis Works

The hypnosis used is the Richards’ TRTP technique. It has been likened to hypnosis on steroids. It is a quick and highly effective method of treating conditions such as PTSD, Anxiety and Depression. It can significantly reduce the time it takes to achieve meaningful results.

If you can day-dream, then you can be a successful candidate for hypnosis. This often allows clients who have painful memories, trauma, anxiety, phobias, grief and guilt locked up inside them to finally experience both relief and a sense of closure.

Conditions Treated

The most common conditions treated include:

Anxiety, Panic Attacks, Phobias and Obsessive Compulsive Disorders (OCD)
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
Depression and Bipolar disorder
Relationship and communication problems
Gambling and other on-line addictions
Substance abuse
Parenting strategies to manage power struggles
Sleep Disorders and Stress Management
Bullying in both the workplace and school
Self Esteem issues and Assertiveness Training
Eating Disorders
WorkCover and TAC cases
